Website design- 4 things to avoid
Here’s a few things to avoid when it comes to creating a website for your business:
1. Avoid cluttering the screen
Getting a website for your business is exciting, and while you’ll undoubtedly have lots of information to share, try not to put too much all in one place as it can be very off-putting to a user. Pages that are filled with words and no images, and backgrounds that are too busy can make for a poor user experience and lead to a user heading elsewhere.
2. Avoid unnecessary pop-ups
A pop-up box encouraging a user to sign up to a newsletter when they are on your website is a good example of a pop-up, however the last thing a user wants is to be bombarded with a steady flow of these as they navigate around your site. Also, make sure a pop-up doesn’t appear too quickly if you are going to use them; let someone read the text and have a look around first!
3. Avoid text heavy pages with no imagery
Imagery really is key on a website as it helps to catch the eye, reflect your brand, and sell your services or products. Be sure though to avoid poor quality imagery as this can reflect negatively on your business. If you are struggling for imagery, consider stock photography as an option to ensure high quality photos are used on your website.
4. Avoid using adverts
Sponsored adverts can be found on many websites to help increase a business’ income, however a homepage plastered with adverts will take away from the content and messages you are trying to get across, and ultimately put a customer off using you.
